Building an Aesthetic
I was recently told by a lambic blender I know that I make more stickers and buttons than I do beer. He wasn’t intending to be hurtful, just honest. I realized he wasn’t wrong, and I started to feel some self doubt about what AltBrau is and where it’s going.
Sometimes you have to “fake it till you make it” in this world... and I’ve definitely used my rudimentary design skills I learned while making flyers for punk and hardcore shows or merchandise for bands to shape the aesthetic of AltBrau, giving the illusion that it is perhaps a bigger entity than it truly is... a homebrewer with a social media account.
I can’t wait to put more beer into the world. It’s the medium I most want to utilize when sharing something I’ve created. However, when you’re dealing with long maturation and beers made with intention that take a long time... you can still make an effort to slowly inoculate your environment with the images and ideas you create. All of my buttons and stickers I order from Sticker Mule are in service of my eventual goal and keep people curious.
I was once told by the crew behind Bottle Conditioned that they started following me due to seeing my stickers, buttons, patches, etc at the warehouse of a lambic blender... that same blender who reminds me why I’m doing this on the first place. So yes, you can expect more beer very soon, but also some more stickers.
